About La Campaigne

Join us for a living history weekend immersed in the martial & material culture of the latter half of the Hundred Years’ War. We will step into a military camp of the French and English, and a series of martial contests will be fought to determine the superior of the two forces.

From unarmored duels to group skirmishes, to armored fighting at a castle gate, to feasting and hiking and singing and dancing, there is something here for everyone. There will be period food and clothing and camping throughout, and a grand feast Saturday night. Historical clothing appropriate to Western Europe in the late 14th through to the late 15th century should be worn.

This event is brought to you by the Company of the Lynx Argent! We are not exclusive to any organization; if you love history, reenactment, HEMA, or armored combat, we have a place for you.

Clothing standards

At La Campaigne, we are trying to encourage a higher level of historical authenticity from all of our participants without gatekeeping, threadcounting, or exclusion. If you've been here in previous years, welcome back! Show us what you've improved upon with your kit. If you've never been, welcome! We are excited to start your living history journey with you!

We are shooting for a target range of 1360-1490 with this event, with a focus on Western and Central Europe. This is a broad date range but we feel it best represents the aesthetics we are looking for while not being too visually jarring.

Visible modern clothes will not be worn in the camp or in any fighting events except as protective gear. A short grace period will of course follow everyone’s arrival and setup but it is expected that everyone presents themselves in reasonably accurate 14th/15th century clothing. Here is what you need to participate:

  • Leather turn shoes or boots
  • Joined hosen, split hosen, or tights (for men—or for women with martial impressions )
  • Tunic, cotehardie, or doublet (for men—or for women with martial impressions)
  • Cotehardie, kirtle, long tunic, or other appropriate floor length dress (for women)
  • An appropriate hat or head covering optional

Here is what we don’t want to see:

  • Obtrusive modern footwear of any kind, especially bright or with brand logos
  • Clothing in bright, modern colors (including medieval clothing with a modern aesthetic, bright trims, ahistorical symbols or logos)
  • Loose, baggy “Viking” or “pirate” pants or pluderhosen
  • Fantasy or renaissance fair costume

In addition to clothing, having the right kit is all about being prepared, so remember to pack:

  • Medieval utensils and dishes for eating/drinking--you are responsible for your own dishes.
  • A period-appropriate camp chair, bench, or stool is optional, but a great addition
  • Warm woolen outer layers (a hood/cloak/warm cotte or jacket)--prepare for cold or rainy weather!

Armor and weapon requrements

For armor authenticity, armor should likewise fall within the same time and geography as our soft kit requirements, though it is quite likely that armors of different eras will face off against each other in the lysts.

For safety standards, take a look at our conventions of combat, the Lynx Accords. All combatants should be familiar with this document, and shall conduct themselves according to the rules of chivalry.
